Statement on the tragic plane crash in Iran

I am deeply saddened by the tragic plane crash in Tehran which has resulted in numerous loss of life. In particular, I grieve for the Edmonton community who have been impacted by this horrific incident, many of whom have deep ties to the University of Alberta.

My sincere condolences to those who have lost loved ones. The Iranian community has deep roots in our city and we are heartbroken. My thoughts are with the Iranian-Canadian community who have been impacted by this event and I grieve alongside our friends and neighbours who have felt the impact of this tragedy.

We are closely monitoring the situation and we support Prime Minister Trudeau’s promise of a thorough investigation into the cause of this devastating incident.
