NDP Statement on declining human rights in India

The NDP critic for foreign affairs, Heather McPherson, made the following statement:

We are deeply concerned by the acts of Islamophobic violence and deteriorating human rights conditions across numerous states in India.

The growing number of anti-Muslim and Islamophobic hate crimes supported by India’s BJP government must be condemned.

New Democrats denounce these recent attacks and diminishing rights of minorities in India not limited to but including Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Dalits, Sikhs, LGBTQ, women and Indigenous (Adivasi) peoples.

We urge the Government of Canada to condemn the deteriorating human rights conditions in India targeting Muslims.

Canada must ensure that human rights are upheld around the world.
