I’m writing as someone who believes in supporting workers. That includes their right to organize and have representation that they can trust.

Right now, federal law recognizes that employer-dominated unions should not exist. But once a union is certified, workers have no real way to ensure their union is truly independent and accountable and no means to push back if they think their union is putting their employer’s interests ahead of their own.

That gap matters. When representation is not independent or accountable to its members, workers lose bargaining power, wages fall behind, working conditions weaken, and entire workplaces are affected.

Bill C-259 would fix that by giving workers a clear process to challenge employer influence and ensuring unions are accountable to the people they represent.

Workers across the country are have been calling for this change for a long time.
